Today, we sadly had to put our son back on the ferry back to the main land and home to grandpa. We spent the morning showing him the burnout of Lookout Louise and doing a little bit of paddling on Tobin Harbor.

The wind was a bit choppy and cold, but helped keep the bugs at bay. Watching the ferry pull out with our son on his own tugged at my heart and I wasn’t settled until I knew he had safely returned. However, once we knew that he was ok, we settled down and mapped out our last week on the island.

We had the epiphany that we feel less like tourists and more like locals here. We’ve seen the weekly comings and goings, but the fact that we are still here seeing how that routine comes and goes, we feel very much like we’re settled in. As interesting as that is, a month is a long time, and as I sent my son home, a piece of me questioned if I was making the right choice to fulfill the full monthlong trip. Emotionally, today was tough.
